Very nice! In my new house, the entire center island is going to be butcher block. I <3 butcher block.

Now all you need are some quality cutco knives. I know a college kid who can tell you ALL about them!

Man that is funny! I was just talking with a buddy who lost his mom recently. She had a small table that was made out of solid hardwood. The thing weighed in around 800lbs. I wanted it so bad but found out that they let it go with the house when they sold it.

What wood did you choose for the center island?

As for cutco.......yeah, we roll only Shun in these parts!

Well, someone actually recommended redwood or mahogany. I don't think I've ever seen block made out of those materials, but they would look nice.

I was thinking cherry or walnut though. Something redish/darkish. The granite I've picked out for the counter tops is white with black veins and red flakes, it would coordinate nicely together.

I love Global knives. They stay sharp forever (3 years in Culinary School and still great).

I actually have a Global santoku, but it's back home. I bought a Henckels when I moved here, but now I'm drooling over the Shun.

    Culinary School? Do tell...
