Default jamon iberica bellato - world's best ham

got some of this for my bday - it has only been available in the US for this past year - and only one supplier has gone through all of the trouble to meet our strict regulations.

not quite as good as the stuff i had in Spain, but better than anything you can buy here in the States:

what makes this so special? very fatty, acorn-fed pigs that are cured for up to 2 years - heaven.

$50 for that plate: La Tienda.com- Hand-Sliced Jamon Iberico de Bellota ham from Spain

the *best* i ever ate was in Barcelona at Jaminisimo where they had a tasting of diferrent producers for 35 euros - you can see the difference between the stuff above (7/10) and the below (8-10/10) - whole 'nother level:

(there's also a bit more detail about the process in my blog post if you're interested)

Looks amazing. I have to have my Jamón serranos and Chorizos every summer in the south of Spain.

That ham is so good. I bought some as a gift for my father earlier this year. When I was in Madrid I had a ham and cheese (and no it's nothing like the ham and cheese here in the states) sandwich almost every morning at the Museo de Jamon (Museo del Jamón Los museos más sabrosos de Madrid Comida típica española). Also served great hot chocolate (once again, much better than what is served in most places here in the states).

    I need to go back.

jeremy - the salamanca was even better - and, as good as that plate was for my bday, it was nowhere near the others.

icruze - i need to back too...

I'm very lucky to have my mothers entire side of the family live in Spain. We have a place in Oviedo in and around our family. We get a lot of good food from there year round. Yes the ham is incredibly delicious
