    Default Cooking Broccoli How to?

My girlfriend's broccoli sucks!!!! It's always over cooked and mushy. When I have broccoli at a restaurant it's always nice and firm and I don't feel water gushing in my mouth when I take a bite.

Right now she cooks it with a steamer, but something has to be wrong. Any tips?

Steamer for no more than 5 min. I toss it in EVOO and salt and pepper before the steamer then drizzle about a 1/4 cup of lemon juice midway steam cycle.
The water should never be touching the brocoli.

My favorite.. Some oven roasted broccoli:

Cut up a couple bunches of broccoli, toss with some EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) then 3-4 cloves of garlic.

Add a little salt and black pepper if you wish (I sometimes add some crushed red pepper as well)..

    Preheat oven to 450

Spread the coated broccoli on a baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes without stirring..

    Enjoy

edit: Its supposed to get a little brown and maybe crispy on the edges.. Googled a pic:

May not look as delicious as some nice bright green steamed broccoli, but believe me its great!

Depends on what I'm making, but if you are looking to boil it do it for 3-4 mins. any more and you are looking at soggy broccoli...

My favorite is grilled with evoo, lemon, and s&p.
Or just in the microwave with ^^^^^^^^^^^ for about 2 mins, or untill its done. cook in a bowl with a top ++ a couple tbsp of water.

Just listen to mitch, he's the food king.
    No Doubt!
