Did it fall in a lake? They salvaged it for a reason. The damage can't be minor. It's a total waste of money if you ask me.

It doesn't take much to write off a Viper. Body panels are expensive and so is the qualified labour to put it back together. From the photos it appears to be mainly the rear end but that said you'd have to put it on an alignment rack and check the frame's hard point to insure there are no other tweaks.
    Major parts list could include:
    2 X rear fenders
    rear diffuser
    diff belly pan
    trunk assembly
    battery and battery tray assembly
    at least one tail light

I'd have someone put it on a rack and check to see if the frame is tweaked... that would be the main reason I would think they would total it instead of repair it.

spend the extra 15g(that would cost to put this back on the road safely) and buy a running ready to go viper

the damage does not look too severe, but i think the price for what you are getting is a tab bit high, if it were in the low 20's it would be a good deal, put 10 g into it and get a nice viper, i believe that these are still going for the low 50's

as for salvaged cars, insurance companies salvage lots of low production cars, just because parts are expensive to buy, and if the insurance company fixes a car they have to put on new parts, where as if a private individual does it they can buy used parts for the car. That's just the way it is.

My current car was a salvaged gto that had far more damage than that viper, we wound up having to replace the whole back end of mine with that of another parts car we bought, used all of the factory weld spots and the car runs perfect, i have put about 15xxx miles on it since we fixed it about 3 years ago and there has been nothing wrong with it, ive even had it up over 160 and the car was fine.

Bottom line salvage cars are good ideas if you have the tools and know how to fix them up, if you are going to do a hack job of it then dont waste your time
