Have you checked into any of the vertical turbines? I don't know how they compare to solar, I've just heard some people locally here talking about them.

vertical wind turbines are less efficiant/size then a horizontal wind turbine because of less swept area, also you need a tall mast/wires so you can't go as tall. If you read independent reviews of wind/solar generators, 99% of the time they see WAY lower output then advertised, giving a much higher ROI where you need to really think if its worth all the hastle. We have cheep hydro here, so it doesn't make sense for us

My parents had planned to get a wind turbine installed at their house, ran the numbers and it would been less than a 4 year ROI, but every company they have been ready to place an order with suddenly stops returning phone calls when it comes down to it. Seems like a very shady business in my area.
