    Default 3 Bolt Lock?

My fiance insist that there is such a thing as a 3 dead bolt lock, from her description, one lock that controls 3 dead bolts that mount into a special frame on the door? She insist on having one for the house! I have no clue what she's talking about.

The lock only needs to be as strong as the whatever the door is made of lol. People get all worried about locks when there are glass windows all over the house.

Our door is solid wood with a small glass pane about 4 ft up. The front of the house does have to huge windows but they are double pane....

Any pics of what she is talking about?

from the looks of it, you are looking for a rim lock......
predominantly used in N.Y. because it is a cheap way to lock up a door. (doors in N.Y. are usually metal)

Multi-point is a pain in the ass to install, usually the door is manufactured with the system built inside.

Install a mortise lock and call it a day...................

Three (or multi-point) lock isn't going to provide any greater level of security to the home as a whole as would a standard good quality single bolt lock.

Invest in a good safe. We've got a Brown and it's awesome. If you can get in the safe, and get out of my house .....alive, you deserve whatever you can carry out.

Thats similar to my door at home. Instead of having one lock going into the door jamb it has 3 spaced out. One at the top, middle and bottom and on each side. If you where to lock the door being open you would see 3 pieces of metal sticking out. These go into a metal door jamb to make it more secure than just a normal lock. The door also has metal sheet inside. Overkill for some houses I guess, because some have easy window access, but at least they will not kick your door down.

This is in Spanish but you will get the idea.

Also as a curios side note. Doors here in Spain, at least on the homes we own, do not have an inside manual lock, you need a key to lock the door. If the key is pushed in into the key hole a key can not be inserted from the outside to open it. Say if your home and insert your key all the way into the lock mechanism, your wife comes home and cant open the door from the outside. LOL So the keys are always in the key hole but only half way in. When you lock up at night you slide it all the way in and turn it a full turn after locking and this prevents the mechanism from being picked.
