How to get into the industry
I see a couple of you guys are luxury home/commercial real estate designers/builders and I was just wondering how you get into a field like this (and succeed
). I'm still in college and have a slim idea of what I want to do after but I just want to get some insight in this field and would better me whether or not I do something estate related
Like do you need a specific degree/major or a masters in xxx or can anyone do it, etc. Gimme the low down!
Thanks

Do a semester internship/mentorship and see if you like it.. It won't be hard to find one as construction of any type has drastically slowed down nationwide.

you looking to get into design of homes or the construction process or what? I'll point fingers if you are more specific.

Construction management or engineering degree of some kind (structural, civil). Work for a company as a PM or Project Engineer get the experience, then you can start your own firm.

I'm a healthcare architect/hospitals but I hardly fit the mold. Did the school thing, made the ranks through the firms. It's almost like building IKEA furniture but on a bigger scale. I do love building and architecture...but rolling with the boys, chasing skirts, spending money like there's no tomorrow is more my speed. In the past I gave my bizznezzz cards out meeting women (hell yeah it worked!) "...I'm an architect..." line is a good opener...but man did I get hell from HR! Anyways, not sure if this helped.
