TIPS for a BEGINNER???
Hi guys, I am 18 and have been smoking cigars for a couple months now. I love to have a good cigar, but I am sick of feeling like a noob. I never know when it is "appropriate" for a smoke without looking like a douche.
Where and when is it time for a stogie?.
How often do you smoke a cigar? (Health wise)
What accessories do you carry for cigar smoking? lighter, cutter, ect.

Thanks

1. I can smoke any time during the day...from early morning when I play golf, late evening after a long day of work, or all day long when I watch football on Sundays... It really is up to you and your tolerance...I'd make sure if you do smoke early in the morning you have something in your stomach and/or start with a milder cigar.
2. Where is a stickier issue...the cigar nazis are getting more prominent and numerous. I smoke in my patio a lot. In public, smoke areas are getting limited but I also try to be considerate with respect to where the smoke is blowing (if it can be avoided).
3. Health-wise...it is a risk but we all have free will and there is a risk to anything. With that said, I do work out a lot and watch what I eat....
4. Simple cutter is all you need AND a reliable torch...stick with single flame...that is all you need especially if you are outside where wind might be an issue.
There are a lot of great value cigars out there that are fantastic smokes...but I do recommend once in awhile spend a little extra on a great cigar...Search the forum and you will find some great ideas on what I am talking about....

if you get a cutter, spend a few bucks. If you get a punch, the $2 will do!
for a lighter, i have use a ronson jetlight. Cheap, and very reliable. I loose lighters like crazy!
For the other stuff. So many optionsJEEP: The dirtiest of the four-letter words

My buddy recently wrote a nice little beginner guide. Some of it you already know but they give some advice on cutters and lighters and such.

The general trend is towards capped (rounded) versus torpedo (conical) cigars. Capped cigars are much easier to punch than cut, whereas torpedo are the opposite. At home, a dedicated cheap punch is nice. But when outside the home, a lighter with a built in punch is very handy, as it means only carrying one accessory.

A common mistake I see is people cutting too much of the cigar. It cuts the cap off and allows the wrapper to unravel. Don't be that guy. Invest in a nice cutter and remember to cut just enough. Check out cigarafficionado.com videos - they have a lot of good info there.

Do NOT buy a Colibri. The spark always messes up when you need it the most.
