The $350,000 desktop humidor
Created by Der Humidor in Germany on the request of a wealthy Swiss man who gave it a "black budget" to make it happen.
Total cost: €250,000 (about $350,000).
In this particular case, 54 kg (~120 pounds) of a unique fluorite (only found in one mine in Madagascar) were used to build the humidor.
The Dellos Stone humidor

The stone humidor with gas and hydraulic technology are manufactured according to customer requirements in different materials and different designs (eg with logos or family crests).
Technical details
- Corpus made of one single stone (Natural Stone, Onyx), marble stone coated with mussel shells (Shell Stone)
- dimensions: 55 cm x 40 cm x 22 cm
- overall weight 70 kg (~150 pounds). Lid weight: 20kg (~45 pounds)
- Gas pressure assisted lid opening with closing hydraulic damping
- Electronically controlled high-precision humidification (independent power supply) with auto-control and differentiated alert signalisation
- Maintenance-free water reservoir protection germinal
- Automatically controlled indirect lighting when humidor is opened
- Lid and case bottom mirror plated in 24 carat gold or chrome steel finished with chrome steel
- Removable trays with freely adjustable magnetic divider
- Storage capacity up to 200 cigars
- The lining is made of solid mahogany Cuban Spanish cedar aroma with replaceable bars in order to regulate the aroma intensity inside the humidor

Agreed, neither do I. It was the choice of the client. It can be made in any stone. I would personally choose something like black onyx stone.
In the case of this green stone, the only mine in the world that had it closed down temporarily for couple years, resulting in an exponential price increase of the stone.

Not my taste, but DER makes some good humidors. They use mahogany instead of spanish cedar.... anyone know why?

I can appreciate the craftsmanship and everything that goes into it, but I think their humidors are ugly

I translated this link: CENTURY-Centurion - DER HUMIDOR
"Tablett aus massivem, fingergezinkten Mahagoni (hier keine Spanische Zeder, da bei einem möglichen Ausharzen des Holzes die Zigarren am Tablett festkleben würden), mit vernünftigen Griffen."
I have heard that their trays are all mahogany, but are their humidor linings mahogany as well? Can you "technically" mix the two woods?Last edited by ZachF88; 05-20-2011 at 06:52 PM.
