    Post Thoughts on active humidification?

What are your thoughts on active humidification products?

There are some really cool setups for large cabinets and walk-ins, but for the smaller (end table-sized) cabinets how do you guys feel about these products?

There are products like humi-care and cigar oasis 1 and 2 fan self contained units (they have florist foam as the medium under the fans.

Most seem to allow for additional fans to be controled by the primary unit (where the additional ones shut off when the unit goes dormant).

I have a cabinet with a pretty poor seal and thinking i might be best off having some active humidification device in there to use it.

How do you guys feel about these products?

A precise and reliable active humidification system is the best solution whether it's a walk-in, cabinet or desktop. Dealing with beads and the constant trial and error experimentation becomes tedious. The problem is that 99% of the systems are made in China and use cheap sensors and unreliable electronic parts. This translates to an error margin of 10% to 20%. The device reads 70 but it could actually be 60 or 80. An active system also avoid cigars rotation.

Active humidifiers for desktop and end table size humidors all use the same principle: a sponge and a fan but they differ by the quality of the sensor used to monitor the RH. The most advanced system I have seen is made by a company in Germany. The device is preset at 70 and opens a valve to let humidity in if the level goes below 70 and closes it if it's above while only circulating air and therefore preventing dry/damp areas. I've heard good things about Oasis as well.

To come back on the seal of your cabinet. If the seal is weak, changing from a passive to active humidifier will not solve your problem. Also, don't forget that any humidor should lose a minimum of humidity to prevent a 100% sealed environment.

they are great, if you take care of them and get a decent model.

I have the Oasis XL. It's really convenient.

Get yourself some heartfelt beads and your good. They will help regulate the RH. Or you could go the cheaper route and get kitty litter.

the readings are pretty close, off by a couple degrees. But I have it set at 70 and have an additional hygrometer in there that says its at 70, sometimes 71
