couple great smokes in Mexico
Went to Mexico on our honeymoon for a week and had a couple fantastic smokes I'd like to share.
I'm no "pro" but have been enjoying learning and trying new cigars lately, so take this review lightly and if you have anything to add or educate me, please feel free...just be nice.
The first being a Gurkha 1887 Red. A nice size stick with a wonderful nutty smell. The conneticut wrapper had great structure and wasnt veiny at all. It had a nice smooth draw to it and a fantastically mellow taste. Held a nice tight ash for most of the smoke and didnt burn too hot at all. It seemed to hit a sweet spot about 60% through and I said to my wife "damn, I think it just got better". Might have been my favorite yet.
While in Calica Mexico I had some time with a Partaga but I cant for the life of me find the metal tube it came in. I cant verify the validity of course but it claimed to be a cuban. It was about 4" in length, came in a metal orange and silver tube with a cedar sleeve lining inside. Was a great lil cigar and was very woodsy (my pallet is still developing so bear with me) The wrapper had a fantastic taste to the lips. The smoke was rather heavy drawing through a pretty small cut. Left a rather good aftertaste and lasted me about 20-25 minutes...which made for a great rest sitting under a cabana on the beach. Enjoyable but not my favorite.
Lastly, while in Punta la Sur (Cozumel) I smoked a generic Cohiba. While it was touted as being cuban, from any research I've seen, it didnt seem to fit the authentic look. It almost seem plugged as I really had to draw to get a good smoke out of it. I had no means of opening it up other than opening up the head a bit, which didnt seem to help much if any. This stick seemed rather dry and not too heavy on flavor. Not too enjoyable at all and left it at half finished. Blah
That being said, I picked up a box of Cuban Cohibas, that seem to match with validity of any research I've done on authentics, at the duty free shop and they may or may have not made it back with me. I'll never tell.
please let me know how I've done in my selections and reviews. I'll state again, I'm pretty new to the "afficiando" stage but do enjoy my time with a good smoke.

I'm almost afraid to upload these because I dont wanna be letdown. But anyone wanna validate my purchase? This was taken in Mexico before we returned.

of course the one outside the box is horridly cut and was a drab to smoke. I also believe it to be a bad fake. My main inquiry is the box and the contents
within.
edit: haha, looking further it seems I got owned by being a noob by the infamous "glass top box" which I guess just were never released. Also it seems the "habano" tag on the top left should be on the top right. Live and Learn. Maybe they'll still be a good smoke anyway. CheersLast edited by kenny senter; 04-14-2011 at 02:23 AM.

I can accept it as a learning experience. My friends dont have to know otherwise and will think they're special for being to share "such a treat", haha. Live and Learn. Luckily, I didnt come out of pocket much...imagine that. Cheers
