    Default Temp control?

Ordering large cabinet humidor, and was wondering the importance of this option, as have stored cigars for over ten years in a regular smaller humidor with nothing but perfect results. My question is it is worth the much extra cost, or should i just go with the standard humidification. Personally dont see the justification for extra cost, but given the amount of cigars i go through, dont wanna cut corners. Thoughts? Thxs

This is my Opinion about Temp control. I feel it is very important for serveral reason. One reason, cigar beetles problems often occur when tempatures get hot. Two, Cigars age at a slower rate due to the lower tempatures and that is a good thing. Best Tempature for cigars in my opinion is 65 degrees. Third, Look at how much you have invested in cigars and have currently in your inventory. That should answer your question completely. If you have Five Thousand dollars in cigars why not do things right and get a good cabinet with temp control and add some fans good air circulation.

Again I want to add this is my opinion and the way I keep my cigars and I have had great results. Hope this helps.

My opinion differs from the one of Joel (with all due respect).

You answered your own question: "have stored cigars for over ten years in a regular smaller humidor with nothing but perfect results".

If you were able to attain ideal storing conditions in a table humidor, I don't see why you would not in a larger table or cabinet humidor.

The very thing to understand about temperature control and cigars is that below a certain temperature, you will develop mold: just like cheese develops it in a fridge and stops developing it once out of the fridge. Above a certain temperature, you risk a beetle infestation. We are talking very high temperatures.

If your cigars are in a room/environment where the temperature is at +/- a few degrees of room temperature, temperature control is not required. Most of the time, houses and apartments are already temperature controlled. Why add another control? Similar to adding a cooling device inside a refrigerator?

If, on the other hand, your home suffers constant temperature fluctuation (to extreme highs) then and only then I would say to consider temperature control.

I can guarantee you that cigars are not cooled where they are rolled in the Caribbean's yet the temperature is pretty high out there. You'll encounter cooling conditions in places where they are sold, yes, but there again, it's for the comfort of the clientele inside. Not for the cigars.

Most vendors will tell you to invest the extra money and get temperature control. Like Joel mentioned: "you spend so much on cigars, why not get the extra option". I am against the idea but that's me. I believe it to be profit oriented.

Keep in mind that temperature control will also have a noise inconvenience; just like a refrigerator.

^exactly I agree with the fact that the temperature is important but what is just as important is keeping the temperature at a constant level with little fluctuatations. Let face it most peoples room temp is more than likely going to be in the 60s to begin with. So putting the humidor out of sunlight and potential temperature fluctuation is just as important.
