Nicotine causes an adrenaline response, which causes temporary hyperglycemia followed quickly by hypoglycemia. This "quickly" is slower or faster depending on what is currently in your system.
Jamming a bunch of simple sugars into your system is a temporary fix which starts a vicious cycle, but will help you feel better.
What I do whenever I get a little too "buzzed" is just wait it out. It goes away without ingesting carbs.
That's how my wife (MD) described it!
