Default Cutter vs. punch - Someone educate please

    used for differently rolled cigars?
    personal preference?

    Changes the experience how?

We seem to have a lot of other things documented here including cutting and lighting... maybe I missed this in the writeup on cutting?

Luckily i've been using the cheapo cutters and havent botched up a stick yet. This place needs some more posts too lol.

Well fed, when cutting your cigar, it’s all about personal preference. Everyone has their own beliefs on what they feel is the best way to enjoy your cigar, but all in all there are many different ways to cut your cigar and enjoy.

In my opinion the best way to cut your cigar is with a double or single bladed cutter, preferably double sided. A guillotine cutter or cigar scissors are some of the best. These are designed to make one swift cut across the end of the cigar and creating the maximum area for smoke to flow when drawing. This procedure is generally the best option to use.

However here are a few others to try.

Bull's-Eye Cutter-- A device for cutting open the closed head of a cigar before smoking. It creates a circular opening like a bull's eye on a dart board in the “Cap” end of the cigar; also called a “Punch”.

Lance-- A cutter used to pierce a small hole in the closed end of a cigar; also called a “Piercer”.

Wedge Cut-- A V-shaped cut made in the closed end of a cigar.

Now as far as which is better, a Cut or Punch, I would go with a Cut. The reason being is because when you punch or lance the end of the cigar, you are creating a small exit point for the smoke to leave the cigar as you draw on it. This in turn will create an area where the tobacco tar will gather and end up changing the flavor of the cigar.

Excellent response, and I agree wholeheartedly.
