Your friend is incorrect.
If you are going to enjoy a tobacco product; here is a list of how to enjoy it from the Safest to the Worst way for your health. (In My Opinion from research).
I am not a Doctor or a professional on this topic and smoking period is bad for your health and can cause Cancer.
From # 1 Healthiest to the least Healthiest:
1. Do not smoke tobacco period. This is the safest way to enjoy Tobacco.
2. Enjoy tobacco through a pipe. There are many different types of pipes and all of them are the cleanest and healthiest way to enjoy tobacco. The reason for this being at the top of the list is because your skin is not in direct contact with the Tobacco.
3. Next would be cigars. This method has direct contact with the Tobacco to your lips and is a little less healthy then a pipe.
4. Now cigarettes are bad for you along with cigars because of the tobacco; but what is put into cigarettes (chemicals), is what makes them worst then cigars.
Chemicals were added to cigarettes in the papers and filters to help the cigarette continue to burn while not in your hand. If the cigarette goes out while in the ash tray and you are gabbing away and not smoking; then you have to light another one. Hence you smoke more and buy more. Some companies have taken these chemicals out but not all have.
If you are planning to smoke cigarettes then you should use a very good tobacco and role your own with chemical free papers. Next would be to use a cigarette holder to not come into contact with the tobacco product.
5. Smokeless tobacco is by far the worst way to enjoy tobacco. This way has direct contact to your skin and can cause a lot of problems for the user. Bleeding gums and sores can be formed in your mouth from this method and can cause severe damage to your system.Jason

Wonderful article. I recommend Dupont if you're a serious cigar smoker - the lighters make a classic "ping" when then open, a tone which can even be tuned.

From another Cigar n00b, thanks for the writeup. Learned a lot and hopefully will pass the info onto my buddy when we enjoy a couple for his engagement.
