    Default Freezing Cigars

Wondering how many of you guys are freezing your box of cigars before you begin the aging process in your humidors... I never have in the past, but a buddy of mind has had one of his humidors completely wiped out because of an infestation of beetles. Makes me wondering if some of the larger outfits (ie thompson, CI, JR) are doing the freezing process before they ship out cigars.

    thanks

I have nightmares about beetles in my humidor. I wake up in a cold sweat coughing to see my humidor smoking and when I oden it up a bunch of beetles are smoking my collection. I just got a decent size shipment yesterday that I'm freezing.

I got them from CI I've never had a problem with beetles but just to be safe I put the shipment in the refrigerator for 12 hours or so then the freezer for 2 days then the fridge again then I let them sit on the counter in a airtight bag for a few hours till room temp then into the humi.

I always use a ziplock bag and try to get as much air as possible out.

Idk how others do it but I do it this way so it's not as harsh on the cigars. I'm honestly not even sure if this is how others do it. I read it on the Internet somewhere an a guy said he did it this way with zero problems so it's just what I do.

I try to order when its colder so i dont have to worry about it

I know Padron freezes every cigar in Miami that they receive from Nica.

90% of the time if you are ordering online from a reputable place they are most likely properly frozen at one point in time before shipped out to the customer.

I have never had a problem with beetles, I am very careful when buying at new cigar shops however and inspect the cigars pretty carefully. I'll look for cracks, pin size holes, and mold, as they can be a sign of proper humidity and or beetles.

If I am somewhere I have never been and pick up some cigars, like vacation or out of the country that is usually when I'll freeze them before they go into my humidor.

hahah fair enough, just don't rush them. Best thing is to let them come back to temp slowly like others mentioned.

I have never personally froze any, but have heard horror stories from others. I prefer to buy locally, from a reputable shop if and when possible. I have made a number of online purchases but each have been from reputable sites. I have always inspected recent purchases much like BSaint said and have been careful about where I purchase....never had a problem. *knocks on wood*

I'm taking my time with them as they are currently in the refrigerator "defrosting" then will let them sit out at room temp for a day before they go back into the vinodor

Won't freezing them make them crack or become brittle?
