    Default Hardwire Power Inverter

I'm planning on hard wiring my power inverter in my car. The inverter is rated at 400 watts continuous with a peak surge of 800 watts. Would this setup be correct and safe? Possibly a better setup out there?

    12.6v car battery
10 Ga wire (15ft or so)
40 amp fuse located next to battery

Since I will never hit 800 watts, if I use 300 I'll be surprised, I figured using a fuse that can handle 480 watts should give me plenty of available power?
