question for the audio installers here.
Hey Guys,
I currently drive a 05 350z roadster and am planning on installing a JL audio 500/1 and 300/2 amp in my car. Am I going to need to run a capacitor or will I be fine running without?
thanks in advance.

JL amps are very power hungry. You could throw a cap in there, but most of the time I would just get a small kinetik battery to add onto the system.

No, do not run a cap. Part of the reason that JL's are so good is because they have enough internal power that you don't need one. You probably won't even need a small secondary battery.

I would first get a higher output alternator, and upgraded wiring before adding something that will put even more draw on the electrical system.

I have a JL Audio 900/5 and running it full tilt doesn't dim my lights or affect the voltage at all. I have no power upgrades. Caps are a waste IMHO unless you are a serious SPL competitor.

According to JL Audio Do Not put a cap on there amps. Just upgrade your stock battery to an Optima Red top 1000cca and you good. I do it all day every day.

i agree, if you want to, just do a red top optima, dont change your alternator or a cap.
we had a shop g35 with a whole lot more power and just did a battery swap and it was good.

I prefer not to run caps...used them but just not a fan. Do a Kinetic battery upgrade and replace your stock battery that can run your vehicle and cover you on the reserve needed to the extra ampere draw.
If you intend to get crazy in the future the alternator is the option after that.

I have a client that used to run that same set-up, I would recommend 1/0 awg power cable from the battery, and an Optima redtop, you will be more then fine. I don't know if you have that equipment already, but I happen to have those two amps used in my shop and I'm selling them cheep. LMK and good luck

I would just make sure you get really good wiring, and maybe if it's really necessary, get a better battery.
