What are some good jobs/productive things for a high schooler?
Hey everyone,
I'm a senior in high school and I have plenty of free time to try and do something productive or make a little money. What kinds of jobs/work would you recommend? Ideally, I want something that will give me exposure and experience in business, particular startups and running one.
The pay isn't very important to me. What I really want is to learn and accumulate knowledge.
For the details - I'm in Boston, have a driver's license, good grades, good SAT/ACT.
Thanks in advance! The youngest member of L4P

Figure out what field you want to get into, start at the bottom. For instance if you want to end up somewhere in the automotive industry, get out there and feel it out, make some money and you make a ton of contacts super fast.

I was trying to learn Portuguese a few weeks ago but I stopped for a little bit. I think instead I'm going to brush up on my Spanish. I already know it pretty well so it's nothing huge.
I'm also trying to design a photo-sharing website with a friend. I'm doing the designing and he's going to do the programming. Of course I'm interested in learning some programming myself.
I would like to end up in the startup industry. Most of the internships I've come across require that you're at least a college student though...The youngest member of L4P

I'm only a couple years older than you but if I were to say anything it would be to truly figure out what you're interested in. Just take some time to research, think and imagine where you would want to be with a career. You're obviously interested in cars by being here, start looking at some of the sponsors links on the right side and imagine the kind of business they run and their daily life. To me it sounds awesome and a complete dream, maybe you not so much.
Secondly, go to college. At LEAST go to your Freshman year. I transferred during college and wish I was able to go to a University during that first year. I know it is hard, downright painfull to come here and see Ferrari's and Lambos all day on L4P, but just graduate. Realize that if you do not go to college, unless you really are starting your own business and have some serious luck/skill with that, you're in some trouble without a degree in this workforce.

Find an area of passion. It is much easier to wake up and be excited to go to work than to be disinterested.

I started editing and doing senior portraits while in High School. Even did my own senior portrait. Good money, and when the parents think your pics look professional for 1/3 price, they tell all their friends and it snowballs. I started photoshopping back in freshman year of high school. I stuck with it because I love being creative, and it's really made me a valuable employee to a few companies. Check out my portfolio link in my sig if your interested.
