Pretty much if you want to start a legit business in the USA you would need a LLC or an INC. LLC is recommended for start ups and small companies.

Visa should depend on which country you are coming from. Good luck getting a green card or a citizenship. Been waiting for 9 years no green card in sight. Personal recommendation go to Canada and then come to the United States.
    Thanks
Did you go the investor visa route ? Or through an employer/sponsor?

Getting the actual visa should not be too difficult, as Belgium is not on any blacklist (yet).

My mom ... so sponsor ... i guess. She had been here for a while all ready. That was a while back. Basically for the last 4 years I have been on something called an EAD. It is pretty much the same thing as a green card ... except that you have to renew it every 2 years or so.

Oh one more thing ... you don't have to live in nevada to get a LLC from nevada. You should be able to get one from Belgium too ... all you have to do is get an LLC via a registered agent. So if the is an online business it would be a great option. But, still you will have to pay personal taxes and other related taxes Europe has. Recommend talking to lawyer.

Well the idea would be to move to the US, so just the LLC or INC is not the objective as such. Would want an investment (as some described above, just sign a cheque and own x% of stock) that can give decent returns, so I can live there and spend time working on building a new company for myself... Wether that company is similar to what I do in belgium now, or the company I invest in, is something I can look at then... I can start from scratch :-)

I am in a similar situation to yours so I hope you dont mind me hijacking your thread. Although, unlike yourself, I am a US citizen.

I am also in Europe, Spain. I was looking into an offshore company. Being US citizen, living in Spain and creating an offshore either in Gibraltar or Delaware, USA. From what I gathered having the off shore in Gibraltar, trading in Europe(mostly Spain) and having bank account somewhere else would avoid having to pay so much tax and other business fees. This might be an option for you also. Anyone have any input?

For me personally, if I sell up and move everything, I'd like to get some sun... Pretty much fed up with rain like we have in Belgium, Netherlands, UK, etc.
Canada must be nice, but somehow it's not as appealing to me...

It's up to you really, there are a plethora of places you can move to depending on your industry.

Lower taxes + Good weather combo is one seldom found but hey keep us updated on your decision

Every place on earth has lower taxes, so bring on the sun ;-)
Have been looking into the whole EB-5 requirement thing, and the thing that bugs me is having to put the 500k "at risk"... It states the money can't be borrowed, but surely a loan from the bank is a risk too? Not clear on that one, does anyone know?

Have been looking around to find some investment opportunities, and from what I understand, to be an angel investor, one has to have a net worth of 1 million. Which I don't have. But why couldn't I have an investment? Why the special status if you do have such net worth?

If by the way anyone has plans to set up something somewhere and needs / could use an investor, let me know. Even large companies looking to open up a new office or something...

    Hope this comes through OK...
This is a study done recently to see the Belgian taxes compared to some other EU countries...

Column 1 is country name (Poland, UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, France, Italy and Belgium)
Column 2 is how much you have left after taxes

The other interesting part is the dark blue line on the graph, which is the total cost to the employer, to pay the employee 75000 Euro gross.
The calculation is based on a single (I.e. not married) individual also having a company car.

    63.29% taxes

I hope that cheers you up next time you fill in your tax returns ;-)

Right, did some more digging, found some interesting investments, so far so good...

Problem is, the investment i have in mind itself does not comprise employment, so I'd need some insight as to what the culture is like to hire independent contractors in companies (externals)

I'll start a new thread for that in a minute...

Still interested to find out more about any investments, tips etc...
