Default Website Design / Programming Cost

What's the going hourly rate on website design? The jist of the site is completed but we want an overhaul. What's a decent hourly rate? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but you should give TinyProj.com a look. MANY responses (like, you'll get soo many you'll be annoyed) but you'll get competitive rates.

Depends on the job and the location of the programmer/designer

ODesk.com or Elance are good spots if you want to find someone in the US and out of the US. It will give you a good idea on the hourly rate variations also

A lot of things come into play. Expertise, how complicated the job is, sometimes an overhaul of a design can mean a lot of different things. The code could be poorly written and sometimes is better to build it from the ground up. Is your current site up to date with it's SEO? Does it use heavy CSS? is it a tableless design?

^^ your crazy if you pay that much.

About 200 dollars for a 4 page psd and then 100 - 200 dollars on coding. You should be able to hire quality designers for 25 - 35 dollars a hour. And outsource the coding to India.

If you don't need a unique design you can always go to themeforest.net.

Quality work costs if you want the whole package. Of course you can outsource the job but if you want to deal with a designer that is going to get you what you want/need it will cost you accordingly. We include SEO/Coding/Graphics in our pricings as well which accounts for higher fees. You also have to remember pricing is according to how long it will take a designer to complete a project. If a designer takes 10 hours to complete a project and another designer 5 hours to complete the same project the quicker designer has to take costs into consideration to make any kind of money off his project.

A better designer will be able to deliver a project much quicker and thus charge more for the quality product.

$35 an hour is what you might get a student to design but your work will be at that level as well.

I think ^^ is crazy. I've seen where that road takes people. We've built over 500 sites in the last 5 years and all at $90/hour.

You DO get what you pay for.

If you post to Elance I can guarantee that some guy from India will do it for 5 bucks an hour. It's impossible to compete with them, haha.
