Default Thinking about starting my own automotive brokerage business

Exactly as the title states. Does anyone have any experience with this? My plan is try and keep this strictly to the internet and keeping no inventory, I'd just be connecting buyers with sellers and vice versa for a fee. Does any one think this is viable? This wouldn't be my main career, it would just be something to make money on the side while I'm in school.

Feel free to "tear apart" my idea....I want to hear it straight

Had a similar thought awhile back. would be a good idea to find those in leases looking to get out and connect them with people looking for a short lease options.

What value are you adding for the customer? If I want a nice car, there are plenty of sites, not to mention dupont registry or other similar magazines that act as brokers.

Someone that went to see the car in person and did an inspection and would vouch for the cars quality I think would be good. Hell if they're buying a 100+k car, they'll pay someone to go look at it.

I was thinking about that a few months ago, mainly because of what you said in your first paragraph.

Keep the feedback coming, hopefully this will help me out in designing a final business plan.

From what I've heard, you'd want to start flipping some cheaper cars before you go brokering exotics and high end cars. This is with the idea that you have never done this before.

Sounds like you want to be an affiliate for a dealership or something along those lines?... refer business to them for a fee?. If you do inspections for buyers, people would probably want to see that your a certified mechanic.

I'd rather be an affiliate than anything else.....I'm the farthest thing from a certified mechanic, although I do know very good shops that I would trust doing a PPI on any car I would buy.

Hard to re-invent the car business. Either find a niche or create your own website? I love cars, wish I could do it full time selling them, flipping them, etc.

    Subscribing for ideas as well....

who in your town does this? call them and pretend to be an interested car buyer. see the process that he goes through and copy his tactics.

Basically you want a "bird dog" fee as its call in the car biz. Credit unions do this, depending on the agreement they get $500 per car. But then again they drive alot of business to dealers.
