About a year back I was making some decent extra cash doing affiliate marketing for dating sites on facebook. Basically I'd create a bunch of ads with my copy and photos provided by the affiliate marketing group and run them on facebook. I'd pay a certain cost per click and when someone signed up I'd get a ~$5 commission.

Like TRW said, it's all about traffic and conversions. On an average month I was spending $2500 to run ads and would receive ~$3000 in commissions. This was great for a while since once I had the ads established I could just sit back and let them run, but inevitably ads would die and you'd have to make new ones, and then Facebook started cracking down on dating site advertising and it just became too much of a full time job trying to get ads approved, adjusting CPC bids after traffic is established, watching traffic patterns on all your ads, etc.

If you take it seriously you can make some decent coin. My folks started doing it shortly after my father retired so he treated it almost like a full time job. On an average month they would spend ~$10k buying facebook ads and make ~$12k in revenue, but like I said they were spending hours everyday tracking ads and adjusting bids to maximize return, and with a full time job I just didn't have the time .

Were you promoting direct ? or using landing pages ?
I find with such offers it's usually best to build a list of your own first so you can capture that lead and promote to them further, thus giving you a better ROI.

Yeah FB Ads approval rate has become a lil strict but there are ways around that. I've tracked the IPs on some of my landing pages and many times they outsource ad approval to Indians/overseas. What I used to do before was bait them into accepting a good landing page (some survey site) then once the ad is approved , redirect it to the squeeze page I wanted.
