Is anyone in wholesale product distribution?
Hey guys, I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I want to learn. It seems some of the people who are doing it are fairly young, like myself. Are any of you in this area of work? I've read all it takes is a laptop and internet connection, and being able to communicate with other companies. Other than that I have a vague idea about how it all works. Is it something that an 18 y.o. like myself can get into? Or could someone point my in the right direction. Thanks!

Its a little more complicated than that, and usually if you can make good money from it a bigger company is already negotiating a deal for distr rights. But if you find a product that you think has potential and then line up some accounts for it...just try to know the industry your getting into.

So its about finding the next big hit before it goes big, and being the deal maker for them?

It could be anything, just make sure you have sufficient margin and volume abilities. Also, great things usually come out of knowing the inside of an industry and seeing a need. To fill that need you need supply (the manufacturer) and it shouldn't be very hard if you already have the demand.
Usually companies like to have distributors for their products, it makes them money and makes it easier for them to build their product/market. It also allows for them not to have to hire more personnel, because your coming to them from the outside. And most of the time the little guy can see what the big guy cannot because he/she has a fresh perspective on the situation.
To become a distributor/wholesaler, find a product/industry you like and search for your niche. Make it something you can have fun with. Then try to find ways you can create or satisfy a demand and gain clients. Once you have a demand that you see or want to create approach the company and set up wholesale terms. X amount is $_______, and Y amount is $______. The more volume your pumping out, the lower YOUR price should be. Always come in high with your target clients, there will be negotiation and one of the hardest things to do is RAISE A PRICE! Start high, negotiate low. People love price breaks and deals.
post specific questions if you need help i am sure some of us can help you. Also, the internet these days has an article explaining almost anything you would ever need to know.

you guys want to get into product distribution. I have a few hundred sets of clear corners, clear bumper lenses for various vehicles just collecting dust. new in box.
About 100 sets. pay for shipping and they are yours. Then you will need to advertise, gain clients and sell! Its not that easy but this will help you learn since i am basically giving them away.
This stuff is old, from like 2003 or 2004. I had thousands and this all that's been sitting around for years.
...just helping L4People if they wanna make a buck!

OP sounds like you want to be a freight broker of sorts?.. I don't know much about this type of thing, but doesn't distribution require HUGE warehouse facilities and a fleet of your own (or someone elses) trucks to move xyz's product from factory to retail or from warehouse to retail store?..

^ I didnt think so? I thought sometimes distributors make the deals and never actually come in contact with the product. Like parallel selling, right?
