Anyone here work/started a beverage co?
As the title says. I have been doing some research based on a new concept which I havent seen and was wondering what it takes to get developed. I seen several sites about beverage consultants but not sure of the process. It looks like Power Brands are the guys to talk too.

Helix here.
Go for it. Hope you have super deep pockets. It is a very hard market to get into and takes a lot of out of pocket money to get going. I thought it would be easy and that people would just be beating our door down to buy the product. Not so much. It will come in time but it is a struggle.Thomas... not TJ

Yeah I know the competition is crazy it seems like there are new drinks coming out all the time. I just wanted to know how the process works if you have an idea for a drink. Do you work with a consultant and what are the steps? Is there a national beverage trade show? I think that would be a good starting point.
Helix what was the name of your product and what happened?"When I raced a car last it was at a time when sex was safe and racing was dangerous. Now, it's the other way round." - Hans Stuck

Helix is the name of the energy drink. It is still in business and meeting weekly with distributors and stores and brokers trying to get it out in the stores.
Mike English is you best person to talk to about getting a drink on the market. He is actually the guy that took it from the idea to the package. There is a lot of formulation and a lot of money spent in a lab getting the mixture correct and the flavoring correct. Expect this process to cost about $10,000 to $15,000... no matter what they actually say. Then you have to get the product put into packets or bottles so you can actually sell it... but you also need boxes or labels. So you need to design those and have someone print them. Most packaging companies have minimum run requirements as do the production companies that actually mix and put the product in containers. Most minimum runs cost about $12000 up. Depends on the product.
Then you have to find someone to pick up the product and distribute it. They all want to know what is in it for them. If you go directly to stores, then they want to know how much you have spent on advertising that year and how much you plan on spending if you get it in their stores. And most are expecting advertising in the six figures.
It is a very tough industry to get into. There are a lot of new drinks out every day but there are also a lot that fail everyday. We have put this product in front of many big names and they all love it, but getting it in stores is a whole other deal. I hope you have a lot of money to spend, like a minimum of $200,000 and a lot of contacts in the industry. If you do then you stand a fighting chance.
I would be glad to sit down with you and possibly save you a lot of money and time heading down dead end streets. Let me know.Thomas... not TJ
