    Default Dream business idea ruined

The other day I was taking a power snooze before class and I had an epiphany. I had figured out a fantastic website start-up that if done correctly, would have a lot of future potential with the added benefit of getting paid to deal with something i quite enjoy. In a matter of minutes i had drawn out on a piece of paper pretty much every aspect and detail of my new goal/dream. I had the layout, color scheme, purpose, future, features all drawn out. I was ecstatic for the last week till I went looking for the information for the database the website will be structured upon. While looking I ran across this website that is almost exactly what my epiphany was. Almost to a T, aside from the layout. I am at a complete loss now and have no idea of what to do or where to go from here.

So my business questions are. Should I peruse my goal even though there is something in place that is almost perfect, thus giving them some competition? Should I continue with my goal, but add features the pre-existing website doesn’t have? Should I give up? Should I revise my goal?

    Thank you

every business has competition. Your idea is not ruined, you just need to add features. make it stand out.

Push forward. There will always be something out there like yours. How you sell and market it is the difference. Business isn't a zero sum game. There is plenty of money out their to spread around. Be aware of whats out there but don't let it influence you negatively and you'll be just fine.

There's 13 trillion US dollars in circulation. Get your idea launched if it's worthy to compete in a marketplace and go get some of that money that's out there.

If at every obstacle of a business idea you give up, you've done just that. Given up. And that doesn't foster success.

^ Couldn't have said it any better.

I don't think that I'm in any position to answer that question, since there are so many guys on here who actually made it and can tell you exactly how to do this and that. But the only thing I can tell you is, that you shouldn't stop there. When I first had that idea, I got it out and everyone felt that it wasn't something new and that the ideas might not be appealing to anyone and I didn't know how to monetize it and all. That was the best thing that could happen to me, because that made me go back, change all that and get something new out. Then again, I had to start from scratch. But all those setbacks made me transform a small university club into a fully functional lifestyle brand which could lead to me being able to do what I love for a living after or if I even finish university.

You take that idea, take a good look at your competition, change some things and then try again.. and again.. and again.

hit the nail on the head. I'm gonna state the overused Apple example. PC's been around forever, Jobs comes in and makes nicely aesthetic Apple Macs/macpros/macbooks (pros) (airs), etc etc. and now market share is trending his way. Make yours BETTER than the rest

Plenty of similar stories out there.. Google, Facebook, etc.

Care to share the site that already does what you want to do?
