    Default Degree Dilemma

    Hello guys!

At last, i finally get to post on the business thread. I need an advise, I just finished my diploma in automotive technology and im interested in doing a degree on it in UK or US. The problem is that my dad supports whatever i want to do but the rest of my family wants me to do degree in business because my dad owns a few business. I really like business and I have a few books on it too but to me, business is all about smart and logical thinking and from there, i thought why would i need a degree on that.

Which is better in the long run, degree in business or automotive?
Is there any good automotive universities in US?
Ive check UK but I always wanted to go to US.
and how about business universities as well?

My dream is to open an all in one house workshop from modify, paint and fabrication but I have a few other business plans as well, some of it involves with L4P partners.Who knows if you guys want to sell your products in South East Asia, i could be your guy

    I'd appreciate your opinion guys.

You really can't go wrong with a business degree anywhere. It's more general and automotive would be more specific. Depends on your goals in life but personally I'd go business.

As you get a little older you will learn that running an automotive shop is more about business than it is about automotive. Just like the automotive world you can learn the business side hands on but having a business background makes it all the easier for you. You really need to look at where your priorities lie- do you want to be the guy turning wrenches for the rest of your life to feed your family or would you like to be the one owning the business, running the business, and turning wrenches for fun.

A lot can be learned from the business degree, but a lot of it is somewhat common sense and basic accounting.

If it were me, I would lean toward either a direct Accounting or Econ degree, plus you have much more clout should you ever need to get a 9-5 from time to time.

I'm going back for an Econ degree to supplement my M.E., so I really believe in it.

Likes others have said a business degree will work best. While you are going to school you could always try to get a part time job working at a car shop to learn that side of the business.

my rule of thumb, if you're scholastically up to it, is take the most abstract course you can.

accounting - you learn a bunch of stuff that will change in 10 yrs.

econ - you learn the fundamentals of why things will change in 10 yrs.

the latter is always better if you can learn the details of the former on your own.

A degree in business will help you because its covers a large area. If you do a degree in something specific, you will be limited to that topic for starters....

    Cant go wrong with business....

The tendency is to push it as far as you can!
