Default Need help writing a résumé

    Hey there!

I don't frequent the business section much, but am coming increasingly more often in search of inspiration. You guys seem to know your stuff, so I've come to you to ask for some help.

What do you recommend having in a résumé meant for a nineteen-year-old college student seeking a "decent" job, say, a bank teller?

I am currently employed as a cashier at a restaurant, and get payed a paltry $8 per hour. I hope to advance in my working life to a more respectable position. Currently, I attend my local community college and hope to pursue a degree at a four year university.

I've applied for an open teller position at a local Wells Fargo branch at the the suggestion of a client (who happens to manage a branch) of my mom's (she's a bookkeeper).

I want to make a good impression if and when I am called in for an interview. I have my attire planned, but need a solid base to stand upon.

I appreciate any help you folks can provide. Many thanks in advance!

You're going to want to include:

-knowledge and skills you have (software you are competent with (Solidworks, Java, C++, Excel, etc)
-education history (college, major, relevant coursework, GPA, etc)
-work history (internships, part time stuff, etc)

    EDIT: PM'd

A man's house is his castle, and God's law, as well as man's, sets a guard upon it; he that assaults it does so at his peril.
Find what you love in life so much that you would do it for free. Then find the people who will pay you to do it.

    - make sure you keep it to one page
    - find a good style (google search) something easy to read and follow
    - keep all chronological progressions in the same pattern
    - print it on high quality paper (cotton, linen, blends etc...should be a heavy weight)

What if I have leadership experience as an executive member at an on-campus club? Or if I'm a member of an honor's society?

Include both things. Especially the leadership experience, since you are young and don't have a lot of work experience this is the next best thing.
I don't know which is better getting paid or getting laid, all I know is while I'm doing one the others getting away.

Put some thought into the layout.

Not everyone is a designer...but most people can identify a sloppy layout.

PM me if you want specific tips.

Also, be sure to print it on nicer, thicker, and better paper than regular copy paper. Your local Target will have "resume" paper.

I used MO 07 when I re-did my resume. It was a helpful tool but I added to it so it didnt look so basic.
