Hi, I'm just trying to nut out a few specifics regarding the printed media industry.

I was wondering if someone in the know could explain how publishing rights and intellectual property rights work together/or don't.

More so in the event that a publishing company handles (printing, marketing and distribution) for a client who produces the media (magazine/book or whatever it may be).

Also in that case would the publishing company insert/arrange and profit from any advertisement (say in a magazine situation) then just pay the said client a royalty (however arranged) for their work? Or would the client organize the ad's insert them into the final product and then pay the publishing company for their services?

Or does the publisher usually own the intellectual property (say a magazine) and just hire writers/editors to work on a particular project for them.

Thanks in advance
