i don't think this would be much help, but just an idea.. if you are interested in doing something like this the only problem is there are A LOT of social network type sites, i wouldn't say that it is a bad time to get in to it, just if you do and want to make money at it or something, going to have to make something that people are like WOW or something no one has really seen or done yet. I would like to do something like this also, just having a hard time coming up with that WOW factor. Plus it is never to late to learn how these types of things work.. could always come to use one day in the future. I hope this helps a tiny bit, not much.. but just my thoughts on it.. but good luck with whatever you decide to do.

There WILL be a next MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, ETC... I guarantee you this. Just... who's going to do it?

and it's almost done.

I gave away over a year of my life to this project - quit the day job.

of course, it's not too late. the ideas behind FB and Twitter, no matter if they are still going later, will permeate all new successful products. understanding how they work, and in conjunction w/ products, is immensely valuable. to grow like wildfire, most products will need to be social.

Not quite sure it the title perfectly fits my concern, but I'm currently in a very creative phase of my life I guess
and have tons of projects I'm willing to either finally evolve or start. Just yesterday I talked to someone on ASW
who owns a rather large Social Media Advertising company in Mumbai, which operates on a world wide basis.
Even though I like how fast everything's growing, from technology to online opportunities,
I managed to somehow stay away from every Social Media Network out there.
I'm barely online on Skype and only have an account on L4P and ASW,
because I made some rather bad experiences when that whole hype started a couple of years ago.

So my question would be, is it already too late to get a real insight into how exactly Twitter, Facebook
and the new Geo-Tag possibilities really work and just wait for the next trend or will this thing really stay significant over the next couple of years/decades?

Hope this doesn't sound too naive, but I just wanted to have some more or different opinions on that specific topic.

EDIT:
It's not that I really want to create the next big thing, I rather meant the support of the ones I mentioned. Maybe I should've formed my questions a little different.
Is it still possible today to have a marketing campaign and to get the word spread without Social Media, or is it somehow "necessary?

DON'T ever trust what someone in a foreign country is telling you. They will always tell you that their operation is huge, because they know it will be very hard for you to verify.
Are you thinking of becoming an investor in this company? If so, I would highly recommend making a trip there to verify that his operation is legit. Let me know if you are going that route. I am going to India this December, and have some work in Mumbai. I can check it out for you.
