I would have to dissagree, I have 2 Utility and 1 Design patents. I drafted both my NON -PRO and Provisional Patents by simply spending 1 month learning how to do so correctly through online research and talking to people. There are a few good courses online.
I then took my work to a Patent Attorney and asked him to review what another Patent Attorney had prepared which was actually myself.
This complication of the process is all relivent to how much technology is involved. If you are doing a project with alot of circuits and complicated technology I would recomend a patent attorney. If not then the process can be done from start to finish for under $1500
As in anything educate yourself on the process, don't think just because someone has a (Title) that they are your only or best option. They just want everyone to think they are.
