Well obviously they don't have that big of a problem with it since CD's are still sold in stores. So what difference would it make if there was a kiosk that rented them? . The big "problem" is file sharing, which lets face it, isn't going anywhere.

Because now there are services like spotify where you can listen to any cd you want, whenever you want, from any device, for only 10 bucks a month. Cd's are on their way out.

^ well...that is SLIGHTLY more attractive than paying per song like itunes....
but for 10.00 a month I could buy a cd, burn it, and upload it to cloud and listen to it unlimited times. Not as convenient though."People don't buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it" - TED speaker Simon Sinek

There is a RedBox for music. It's called Half-Priced Books. Buy the CDs and sell them back.
There are only four sports: bullfighting, motor racing, mountaineering, and troll hunting; all the rest are merely games.

Why would it not be legal? It's just another way to store data. If I can store it on my hd, whats wrong with the cloud.. not like I would be sharing it. That would be illegal.

Well not to get off of my own topic but I think a search engine just for articles would be great.
I've been collecting articles from entrepreneur.com , inc.com, fast company, mashable, techcruch, and more .
I copy the text and paste it into a word file then save it to my dropbox, but it would be nice if there was a search engine for people like me
who just want good quality content from credible sources and allows me to search and download the articles.
Something kinda like 4shared.com but just for text files."People don't buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it" - TED speaker Simon Sinek

It infringes on the copyright. Say you buy a professional portrait and you decide to do a high res scan onto your computer. That is breaking the copyright. You were sold a product via a specific medium and it can not be transferred to another medium without the copyright holders consent.
edit: This is all pretty basic stuff man. Ever heard of google?

google, you mean that search engine thing people always talk about?

Sorry, but I'm not going to dive into copyright law just from some half-baked idea I had and wanted to share it online.
You mention copyright infringement if I scan a portrait. Well then if I scan pages out of a textbook for a homework assignment, is that also copy right infringement?
Regardless of the answer, the general public obviously (as seen by their love for free media) has little concern for copyright infringement. Helping businesses make/keep their money is not on the "to do" list for most Americans I am sure.Last edited by Stance; 10-18-2012 at 01:11 AM.
