That's what a sales position is. I fully expect to be fired if I don't meet my goal. There's a ton of reward for that risk. What if you owned your own business? Not enough sales and you can't pay your bills. It's all the same.

Well sure, but goals should attainable and sales people should not feel forced to resort to tricks and high pressure sales tactics. Business owners with a lick of common sense and dont want high staff turnover would know that IMO.

Goals aren't just pulled out of the hat. They fit the bigger picture of the company. They're individual percentages that roll up the ladder to the top. Goals are set to make the proper ROI for not only the individual but the company itself. No point in payin somebody who isn't makin you money. Although you might have thought the dealership's goals were ridiculous, I bet somebody was meeting them.

How are they paying anyone who is on Straight commission if that person only gets paid if they sell?

Sure no money for the company = no money for the sales person but there is no out of pocket expense for the company. Also if a sales person doesn't produce (makes sales) I would think that eventually they would move on, as most people have to make a living to pay bills.

^ well for example in real estate, agents get a desk that they usually pay a "desk fee" annually. An agent that cant make sales is a waste of space to the agency I suppose.

Follow the quotes. That comment was directed to Stance about high pressure sales jobs in the vehicle industry.
