But aren't the same engines offered in the 3 and 5? I would assume the tunes to be similar?

Dinan just came out with a tune for their N55 engine, the one your 740i has, the tune is currently available only for the X5 and X6 engines, but soon will come available for the 5 series, which should be compatible with the 7 series i6 engine as well.

But I have to ask, why did you buy a i6 engine in a car that you wanted to tune, in my opinion if an individual can truly afford a 7 series, they shouldn't be looking for a bare car, but a fully loaded or at least well optioned model. You want power and speed from a vehicle, yet you choose one of the heaviest model with the smallest engine, if you wanted a fast 7 the answer is a 750i, hyrbrid, B7, or unnecessary 760Li.

Lastly I was just reading the recent threat about the 2012 640i under the BMW section and noticed the response from member Omar@VelosDesignwerks and he mentions having software that adds quite a bit of power to the 640i, which also has the same engine as your 740i, talk with him about a solution.

My 740i was highly optioned only options missing is rear entertainment and night vision, if I wanted a 750i with the options my vehicle had I would be looking at 100k+, other side gas mileage is great on the 740i also has great power I just want to see how much more it can pull out with a tune, I am running out of modifications to do so I am looking into a tune.

I'd love a tune for my car to. But problem is I don't know who to trust these days. I hear to many bad stories about a lot of tuners...

A well optioned 750Li comes out to around 100k MSRP, but no one pays MSRP, when I helped my father buy his brand new 750Li, the sticker was $96,795, he paid a little over $75K before taxes. I don't think people who buy 7's are worried about gas mileage, its a petite percentage of the overall cost of the ownership, for god shakes the stupid RFT are 400 a piece and go out after 12,000 miles. The 740i has decent power, I don't think great is appropriate, not a strong power to weight ratio. But none the less, you have your 740i your happy, your tricking it to your liking which is great, and your being flexible with the options, I will keep my ears out for any reputable N55 engine tunes for 7's and pass it your way.

    OP,

Sorry for the delay and thanks to everyone who pointed this out to me. Unfortunately your sources are correct, the 740 does use a different computer than the 535/540 and the current model 640. We are currently working on this and will let the public know once it is available. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. As to why BMW did this, we know for a fact there is new technology being rolled out and the 7 series seems to be the first model of choice. This was confirmed when they built the 2012 740 with a different computer than the 640 and 535. OP I will reply to your email as well in the morning but just wanted to inform you and everyone else first.

    Best Regards,
