I would go for an M3 or an x6, both cars are fantastic. OR, the f10 535i is also nice.
Current rides:
BMW x6 50i
BMW widebody e90

For 70K there is a large spectrum of BMW's, used or new, that you could get. If you want a saloon, why not stay with a 5 series? Of get a used 7 series. If you want a maniac go-kart, get an M1... There is a lot of stuff available....

If you're looking for a good replacement for the 5 series, go either new 5 series or M3 sedan. M3 gives you fun first and function second while the 5 series gives you function first and fun second.

Well first you need to decide what you need it for; work, hauling a family, traveling far distances and want good gas mileage, lots of trunk space to carry boxes, etc.
After you have decided what you need it for then move on to what you want, multiple models of BMW will fit in your need category and make sure its in your price range.
Then PM me and Ill give you in my opinion the pro's and con's of every BMW you have narrowed down to, also I will try and help you get a great deal on your purchase if its new.
In the end pick a X5 and be happy.
But seriously, don't even consider a X6, its the most useless car in the BMW lineup.------
