BMW i8 Spy Photos: Caught Up Close
See more BMW i8 photos at AutoGuide.comBMW’s new green sports car hasn’t been spotted since it was cold weather testing in Northern Europe over the winter, but now we have new spy photos of the car, up close and testing in the summer heat.
These latest shots give a clear idea of the car’s impressive aerodynamics, while we’re also given a few hints at the its interior. There’s even a shot of the near-excessive amount of electronics that will be packed into this plug-in hybrid.
Set to go on sale in 2014, the i8 uses an electric motor for the front wheels, mated to a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine for the rear wheels. Combined, the two produce around 500-hp, with BMW estimating a 0-60 time of around 5 seconds. Also important is a 22 mile zero-emissions range with a 78 mpg rating.
