Any M6 owners willing to help me out?
I'm looking to chat with an M6 owner/s about the M6 and the car itself how it is to live with on a daily basis. I'm starting to massively consider the car to purchase around December to January and I'd like to get a good idea ahead of time.
I'm considering a 2006/7 M6
Mileage below 40 thousands preferably around 25-30k miles
I am adding an extended BMW warranty, Matte Wrap (color unsure ) 22in Vossen CV5 or CV3's and a Dinan Exhaust (the upgrades would be done a bit after the purchase)
Like I said some of my questions are in regards to Options, Drivability, Bad Weather Usage, Gas usage, preferred upgrades, boot space, rear space
NJ residents, do any of you have window tints? Do they make big issues for you?
How is this one?

I had a 2007 & 2008 E64 M6 convertibles. Having two of the exact same car at the same time was fun, but I ended up trading in the 2008 M6 for a 2012 X6M (but kept the 2007 M6). It was mainly because the M6 doesn't have a ton of room and basically ZERO back seat (I have the drivers seat all the way back). But I totally LOVE the M6, and I will probably always have one. I thought about getting a 2012 M6 convertible, but honestly I am not too keen on the new look (ESPECIALLY the rear end...yuck!) and I hate the fact that it isn't NA. It just doesn't sound right to me. My V10 sounds fantastic, and the new twin turbo engine (which is the exact engine that is in my X6M) just sounds very plain and vanilla as compared to the V10.
Having three cars, my M6 only gets driven on the weekends and in great weather. I don't think I've driven it more than 3-4 times with the top up...however...it is VERY quiet with the top up and the drivability is fantastic. I did drive it in the rain once, and it behaved very very well. The gas usage is something that might bug me if it was my DD. Not so much how much money I spend on gas (c'mon...it's a V10!), but more the RANGE of the car. It has the same size gas tank as a regular 6 series but gets lower MPG, so you will find yourself stopping for gas more often. The trunk space is actually pretty damn good for a convertible. I'm guessing that there is even more room in the coupe version.
As far as upgrades go...I ordered the car with everything that was available, so the few things I've done are rims,BBK (front and rear), intake, stereo, radar, laser jammers, seat covers, suspension, tint, etc.
My one pet peeve with the M6 is the lack of storage space in the front. Besides the glove box and center arm rest, there is ZERO storage for things like sunglasses, snacks, etc. It has about 23K miles on it.
So... there you go! Here's a few pics...

Here they are together.

I have an '07 coupe with under 30k. It has 22's on it, i've driven it in snow/icy conditions and it has done just fine. I probably wouldn't do it all the time, but i'm confident that if I had to every day, with some good snow tires it would be no problem. Everything BHR4CE1 said was spot on. The only upgrade I plan on doing is suspension and I still can't decide between Eibach or H&R. From what i've read about the two. Eibach is a better ride but not a full 1" drop in the rear, only 1" in the front. H&R is a full 1" drop all the way around but is a bouncier ride.
They'll never know what you've done, they'll never know how you died, they'll never even know your damn name, but they'll be alive because some nameless bastard gave his life for theirs.

The most recent BMW M6 was produced from 2006-'10. The coupe was available throughout that run, while the convertible arrived for '07. Both versions employed a 5.0-liter V10 engine that produced 500 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque.

My 08, 6 has full option and love every stitch of it, including the extended leather. Wouldn’t have it any other way! It's a GT class vehicle and should be well appointed in the lux and comfort dept. of the interior. The HUD is mandatory, not a standard option.
DSC helps the car in the weather, fortunately in Los Angeles weather is in our favor. Snow / black ice is not an issue. In M mode, dry summertime, the car will break loose, easily so deal with it, adapt and respect it. Use extreme caution while driving this car in snow / ice. DSC should be kept ON (active) until you know the car and its weight shift and power potential. Driving skill is critical and consider taking a defensive driving school.
Drivability is awesome, however be forewarned any dipshittery will lead to catastrophe. Respect the car in winter spring conditions and always adjust your settings especially rolling on 22s. I would recommend against coil overs unless they have one that allow you to retain the EDC. On deuces, this will induce a low level of anxiety while driving, to some maybe more; you will be on edge of your seat defending your baby of any dips, potholes, or hazards to the chin and those precious wheels. I rock 21s and its always a concern especially down wilshire cooridor all the way to DT, through ktown. That shit never gets old, I wish it would . The EDC on low pro tires gives the luxury of a softer ride when needed. Big + for rim dent resilience. The drop, low pro tires, and wheels will make the ride very SPORTY. Always reverse into parking spots and if possible have patience to only push the car when the tires are warmed up over 106 for max adhesion. When lowered these wells will RUB. RUB big time. Had my fender cut. It was risky, but works perfect for my setup. IMG_4350.JPG
Be prepared for a stare at your dash / HUD in perpetual horror while the low fuel indicator is illuminated. But remember, She’s a V10, and comes with the turf. This is a weekend car for me find myself spending 120.00 over a weekend is easily accomplished for areas of no public transportation. It may be an crisis at first, but the love of the baby gets you over it rather quickly.
Keep it kept in the garage at all times. OBDC can be tapped into while the car is off, I can explain the nightmares that can happen if you get your ride data stolen.
In 08 the idrive changed and the computer is upgraded, not like the 2010 version but its more modern. Also the side corner lamps is clear tail light assembly is LCI. 2009 the multifunction iDrive knob was added, and in 2010 the S85 monsters took on the latest iDrive HD screen and revamped iDrive operating system. With that said, I would absolutely look at a 09/10 CPO if possible. Our Achilles heal is SMG; tranny and clutch going bad, shit goes wrong and when it does you want to DOUBLE TRIPLE QUADRUPLE CHECK, your aftermarket warranty covers these repairs. Most third party warranty ceased accepting M5/6 w/S85 engines anymore. There is a huge amount of resources on m5board.com.
The clutch goes out, the throw out bearings go bad, and etc. I had my clutch replaced under CPO warranty a few months after purchase. If I were to do it all over again, I would get a fresh modern CPO and sell it when the CPO warranty is come to expiration.
If you have any questions feel free to email me or give me a call. I can show you pics of my beast too. Happy Hunting, and i hope you find a vehicle, that you really come to love and enjoy it in good health and spirit. I love every bit of the E63.
