Luckily where I live BMWs, and even M cars, are so common that the brand itself is not so big of a deal. I prefer it that way personally. I still get some thumbs up from folks, but then I know it's because people like what I've done with it, not just that's it's a bimmer.

Same here. Having two M cars in SOCAL is not really that big of a deal...but with the Mods I have done, they do stand out a bit. I get a lot more looks when I pull up to a car event (in the company of people that know what else I drive) in my Beetle.

Depends on where you live, my car will get looks because it's modified, but the 3 series is so common nowadays they sort of blend in and don't have the presence that say a 7 series or 6 series or ///M car has. So many people lease new 3 series now it's absurd...I still think to the average non car person they do have somewhat of a status over other brands...but not what it used to be especially here in Florida, convertible m3's are everywhere

To non-car enthusiasts YES BMW is a luxury car, to us who know how much it cost, not really. Here's an example, me and my dad went to Lowes a couple weeks back and saw a base model Panamera in the parking lot, we of course laughed because we knew the car was sh*t, but someone who doesn't know would say "This guy drives a Porsche I wonder how rich he is!"

My car title is my status symbol.
Cars, watches, women, apple products. AKA having money.
