BMW CEO Confirms Inline-Six Turbo Engine for BMW M3 and M4
BMW CEO Confirms Inline-Six Turbo Engine for BMW M3 and M4
The final word is out! BMW of North America CEO, Ludwigh Willisch, has shared with BMWblog.com the news that ends all the speculations. The upcoming BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe will get an inline-six engine fitted with a turbo producing around 450hp. It is unknown if they will use the twin-scroll or twin-turbo technique.
The engine is expected to be mated to a dual-clutch transmission. BMWblog.com also released that a V6 unit was on the table and tested by M, but for like balance and weight distribution, it never made it to the production car. The next M3 and M4 will also get an electronically controlled differential as used in the M5 and M6.
The BMW M3 will debut in 2013, followed a year later by the M4 Coupe.

Well I mean the S4 has a 6 cylinder, however its a complicated matter because some argue that the RS4 which has a V8 is a better comparison to a M3.
I think BMW will make a great F30 M3, except it will have an ugly front, I am curious how much power they are going squeeze out of the engine, I know they say 450HP, but I want to see official numbers.------

I think we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves here. Turbocharging and direct injection will become more mainstream as higher emission standards are enforced, especially in European countries. There is no other way around it. As for the car's look, I hate that square bit of headlight that does not connect smoothly with the grille. Seems a lot of other people hate it too.
Other than that it looks like it will be another great car that I could buy...........10 years from now :P
