    Default Pilots with Asthma

I had asthma up until i was about 14 then i grew out of it and have been fine since. I read that for the British RAF once you have had asthma you can never been recruited as a pilot, however in the British Army you can be recruited after 4 years of being clear. Thats the military process of becoming a pilot, but would previously having asthma affect me working for a commercial company or any steps along the way in the pathway of private training ect.

Also does anybody know of any other ways such as academies run by airlines for aspiring pilots as it seems you either have to fork out $$$ for private training, or going the military route which you have to serve for 10 years.

Sorry for all the Q's, but thanks

You should not have too many problems getting a private, or commercial license, but I an not sure about ATP. The best thing you can do is join the AOPA, and use their consulting physician services. Don't just go in blindly trying to get your required medical cert. You will need expert guidance for something like that. If you go in and are denied a medical, it will be an uphill battle to ever get one.

I am a senior medical examiner and have pilots with asthma all the time...
depends on severity and frequency of occurrence

if it is typical asthma occurring once in a while..no problem
