ANA 767 damaged in rough landing in Tokyo
An All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-300 jet was damaged during a hard landing Wednesday at Tokyo's Narita Airport.
The Aviation Herald, which follows news on airline safety and safety incidents, says the ANA 767 "received substantial damage." The Herald says the "first post-flight examination (of the aircraft) revealed the fuselage skin received numerous serious creases just ahead of the wing root all around the circumference."
An ANA spokeswoman confirms to FlightGlobal.com that the jet was damaged in the incident.
"The flight had a rough landing when it landed at Narita's runway," the spokeswoman says to FlightGlobal.com. "After all passengers and crew were off, our mechanic checked the aircraft and found the outer panel of the aircraft's fore side of the body had been damaged."
None of the 183 passengers or 10 crewmembers on ANA Flight 956 was injured. The flight had originated in Beijing.
The ANA spokeswoman tells FlightGlobal.com that windy conditions were reported at the time of the landing, though it was not immediately clear whether that was a factor. The spokeswoman says it is unclear whether the jet will be able to return to service. The tendency is to push it as far as you can!

No biggie, insurance will handle it. Either repair it or write it off.

Yeah, thats not a big deal.
I am just surprised that the fuselage creased. Video says that crosswind component was >27 Knots. The maximum take-off/landing crosswind limit given by Boeing is 29 knots for the 767. Surprised that this limit does not allow much deviation.....The tendency is to push it as far as you can!

that must have been a scary landing for the passengers. with all the electronics, i still find it surprising that shears can't be detected and countered.

Amazing that landing managed to ripple skin. I'm sure a boatload of rivets popped, doors/hatches out of alignment, flight controls require re-rigging
