What do we all think of electric cars?
Now before everyone starts yelling, let me preface that i'm not talking Nissan Leaf, G-Wiz, or that Mistubishi i-whatever, i'm talking about the types of cars that we all love. Tesla, Fisker, The Phantom 102EX concept, SLS E-Cell, etc.
To put my own opinion in, I want one. I want a lot of things, including a Laborghini, Koenigsegg, really anything with 4 wheels and over 400 horsepower, but i've become interested in the electric alternatives, specifically right now the Tesla Roadster S and eventually the SLS E-Cell when it or something similar eventually hits the market.
Not really a specific question, but i'd love to see what people think of this new sector of the automotive industry and if anyone owns or would ever think of buying one.2010 Volkswagen GTi

In all honesty I like the idea but there is not much going for it in my personal opinion.
In a enviromental perspective, producing electricity in the USA causes more pollution than burning gasoline. (86% of powerplants are coal burners) The idea of pollution may work somewhere like where I'm at as we have hydro electricity over here. (98% hydro 2% nuclear).
In an automotive perspective though, one thing I love about cars are the exhaust notes, which electric cars don't provide.
I would love to hear from an owner for sure though! (I know you're talking about sport e-cars but I my comment is for all electric cars). You can live in a car, but you can't drive a house.

I bought a Fisker in December. I've got ~ 1000 miles on it so far and have filled the 9 gallon gas tank once. It's extremely comfortable and in sport mode is plenty quick, plus with the drive system I don't have range anxiety.
I owned an R8 so I know what you mean about the exhaust note, but the silence during acceleration is kind of cool too.
I have solar panels on my roof so I'm dumping into the grid all day long and charging the car late at night. If you haven't driven one I'd give it a try. You might like it enough to buy one!
If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.

Eco cars are NOT just about the environment. It's more about the wallet and lifestyle at this point. I am glad that cars are finally becoming more efficient and less reliant on gasoline.
We have a lot of natural resources that can fuel transportation needs. The more we diversify, the less gas will cost at the pump. That translates less dependency on foreign oil.
China is actually a leader in alternative fuel on vehicles and more efficient cars (yes, they are tin cans). The average MPG is higher than US in China. Good majority of taxi's are powered by NG. US is finally catching on and that's exciting.
All those that condemn on environmental damage due to toxic battery pack are talking non sense. These are the same people that say don't recycle because it takes more energy to process recycle goods than to produce new raw material. All the talks about what's cleaner (electricity vs gas) is also splitting hairs. US air quality is great with the exception of maybe NYC and LA. There are any coal burning powerplants there. Poor air is not caused by electricity powerplants in major cities. I'd say these statements are lack of common sense ruined by bad statistics and heresay.Last edited by djantlive; 02-16-2012 at 11:27 PM.

I love the well executed ones. I saw a white Fisker today (HYBRID) on Beverly and it was mean and wide. It definitely had amazing presence. I also like the Tesla Model S coming out. Once you drive an electric car done right, you will be a convert. The instant torque available from electric motors is unrivaled, period.
