Need a good first car!!
ok guys heres the deal,
I have around 3k-4k to spend on a car and 4k is the top. I need a car thats most importantly FAST! I also want it to be RELIABLE and good mpg. I was thinking a 300zx or 240sx. The 300zx seems nice cause it has 250-300HP stock, nothing compared to the 240sx. What about a Celica? or a Civic? Euro cars are somethin im looking for but i dont know if i have the $$$ for it. Any suggestions are great!"The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary"

ok.... first off, you have this in your tagline
"1992 300zx TT
1995 Nissan 240sx s14
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS" - do you have these cars, or want them?
And i would get a RELIABLE car as a first car.

I know the 300zx got totaled (not by me) and the 240sx was a car that i bought for $1k but the engine needs a rebuild and id rather just get a uprade. and the trailblazer is my moms so i need something for myself

fixed tagline- much clearer =] --- just looked for a 300zx, around 5k for non turbo. You might be able to find something at an auction (for dealers auction, you need a friend who is a dealer) - PM me bout the 240, if you are selling it (looking for a possible project car) - but ill keep an eye out for something fun for you

Honestly you are pretty limited on "fast cars" in your budget.
4K you could probably pick up an E36 BMW thats pretty clean and turbo it. Maybe take a look at a Mitsubishi 3000GT? Those can be made fast. If straightline speed is most important, pick up a clean foxbody 5.0 Mustang and turbo it.
I guess it just depends on your mechanical skill and time you want to put in.
And this. My E30 325 isn't the fastest car ever, but it goes and goes, and is a blast to drive.Last edited by P.Clerc; 09-13-2011 at 12:49 AM.

All I have to say is this.
Cheap, Fast, Reliable... pick two."Cornering is like bringing a woman to climax." - Jackie Stewart

Go for an Integra GS-R, reliable, fun, and good on gas.

fast, cheap, reliable, pick 2 cause no one has ever found a way to get all 3 in one car. i'd go cheap and reliable for your first car. but start with something that has potential. while honda's have potential, the money to get there can be spent elsewhere. a non turbo 300zx, 220hp for the 1990-96 models. not as complicated as the turbo models so a bit more reliable, but the n/a's do not take much money to convert into a turbo 300zx for later down the line.
best and i'm not being biased here. a 91-96 dodge stealth sohc, 160hp(as much a dohc ford probe gt of the same yrs), the engine does not break, do the timing belt every 60k and youre good to go(and oil of course) they're cheap, 2500 will get you one in near perfect condition. the 91-93 look the best. you can find an pretty decent r/t(dohc, 220hp) for under 4k. the turbo's are a lil out of reach, and they're not cheap, they're not reliable, just quick. also look at 3000gt's, they're the same car mechanically, just look a lil better, but no sohc version
other way, i'm sure f-body camaro's and firebirds fit that price range, and probably fox body mustangs. 190hp-220hp for them. they are reliable cars as the engines are ancient design and dont break, and they're american pony cars, aftermarket is huge- Dave
most of what i say is a joke, unless it's serious

All good recommendations. Id say a GSR, 325i, B13 SE-R or a AE86. Might not be the prettiest or fastest bunch of cars but theyre all pretty affordable and fun.

I'm going to guess you were born in 1994, so there is a good chance you are under 18 which is a violation of the Terms of Service for this website.
Secondly forget getting a "fast" car, it will ruin you. If you have to pay insurance any provider will bend you over backwards and ram you.East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
