Thread: Meeting a Legend

Saturday, Denbeste Motorsports was having their annual open house.
For those that don't know, Denbeste is a Shelby Mustang and Cobra continuation distributor. This facility has a little of everything that bears the Shelby name. It's a bit late to post all the pics but on hand were Daytonas, GT500KR, Boss 302s, GT350's, race cars, a CS Series 1, and even a few odds and ends (VW Bus, an original Hummer, a Gallardo and a Aston Martin Vantage.)

The BBQ was free serving up corn on the cob, chilli (all gone by the time I got there), a ton of grilled tri-tips and hot dogs; of course a green salad or potato salad, and drinks.

What I didn't expect: free bottles of Zinfindel wine and a chance to meet Mr. Carroll Shelby himself... a complete surprise by everyone! I could NOT pass this opportunity up to say hello and thanks for creating such legendary machines.

Here's the sweet part. I sheepishly told him that while I'm sure he's heard this a million times during his career, my daughter is named Shelby.... the following pic shows him handing me his card to mail a picture of Shelby and he will sign it.

I met Carroll probably 4-5 years ago at a car show down here in SoCal. The 427 Cobra has always been the car my dad has lusted over, so the name Carroll Shelby was thrown around a lot when I was younger. Having the chance to talk to him for a few minutes is an honor, and I'm glad I can say I've had the pleasure of meeting a legend. I'd love to sit with him for a few hours, and just listen to the stories.

A 427 will be in my garage one day.

That is awesome! He is a super nice guy. Very humble and his wife is a pistol! Met both a few times as he has a house by me and attends local car events sometimes.
