    Lightbulb thoughts on an r8

hey guys i just wanna hear your thoughts on an r8 v10 and a v8 r8. im coming from a c63. it has about 520hp and 500ft-lb torque. will i be disappointed with the v8? i know its faster on a track. what will i expect from an r8 v8 and v10. maintenance, reliability, etc.

Coming from a C63 AMG, you will have no regrets. The power of the 4.2 V8 will feel similar to the power in the 63 in my opinion. I am currently looking to upgrade to a V10 as well. The power of the V10 does feel much faster as it should with the extra 100 hp. Both the V8 and V10 are very reliable. I really drove my V8 hard and it was superb. Rarely went in for anything other than normal service and I drove it every single day. I highly suggest buying the Audi Care which covers all services up to 50,000 miles. The Audi Care plan is transferable so if you are buying used, I would definitely ask about that. It can also be added to any car that doesn't already have it for only $1,000 I think. If you enjoy the power of the C63, you won't be disappointed with the V8 R8. If you want to have a little more power and can spend the extra cash, then the V10 is the way to go.

I had an 09 C63 with all Kleeman parts, ecu, headers and etc. Put down tons of power. Fun to drive and makes a nasty growl. People liked it..But driving the R8 is a pure connection to the road. Especially in the 6speed MT. I love the V8. As though it might not be as aggressive as the off the line C63...it's an R8..not another C class every other woman is driving. Its about the enthusiast inside of you and the dynamics of what the car was meant to do. If you can get the v10....do it, if not..the v8 is superb as Ssiiick said.

V8 R8 w/ a Tubi or Kreissieg sounds 1000000x better than a V10 with the same, I don't know why it just does. I'd recommend a 6-speed manual over the r-tronic because it's stupid clunky.

It's definitely a buyer's market for these cars right now, prices have softened considerably for both V8 and V10 and there's a large glut of them available.

Try to get an 2010 and up, for the 10+hp bump, updated digital cluster display and longer warranty. If you buy used, make sure the Audi car is transferrable from the previous owner. If you don't mind waiting, in a few months there's going to be a facelift for the 2012 R8 which is said to include an updated DSG tranny, revised headlamps and taillights, tweaks to front and rear fascia and a slight hp bump.

Good luck! The R8 is a good looking, comfortable & reliable daily driver with some exotic flare. You will thoroughly enjoy it as I did mine until I totaled it.

Jay: when are you trading yours in for that italian fix?

I know this has been said time and time again, but the fact only applies to Spyders. There are not a lot of new coupes sitting idle at dealers.

There is NO confirmation from anyone at AUDI of this. This has only been hearsay amongst the many auto blogs and such. I don't believe this will happen till at least a 2014 MY.

The facelift is happening this year. It's just a question of the extent of what will be involved in the facelift. e.g. the headlights might not be revised, just the grille. Audi confirmed there will be a facelift, but did not confirm what is involved in it, the auto blogs seem certain the DSG will be part of the facelift.

4PLAY's V10 is for sale and it's very well equipped. He's asking only $144K for it, check it:

Ship it over Tommy's a solid guy and his car is pristine.

BTW, there are 45 V10s on cars.com and 31 on eBay (used & new). If you're talking about just white ones ya, they are harder to come by.

    Good luck with the hunt!
