Audi Q7 Diesel vs. BMW X5 Diesel?
So what does everyone think of each? Which is better in your opinion?
Personally I like the X5 just because it seems a little cheaper for a fully loaded one, but not by much. I have not driven either. They both seem hard to find. Americans not liking the diesel stigma(black smoke, redneck, etc)?
I am making this thread in both the Audi and BMW section to try to get a good opinion of both. If that is bad of me to do, Im sure a mod will take care of it as they see fit. I apologize in advance if this is a problem. I dont care about post count, thats not my reason.
EDIT: Sorry, meant the ones you can only get in the US. Audi Q7 3.0L TDI(225hp 406tq) vs. BMW X5 35D 3.0L(265hp 425tq).Last edited by BLK; 03-28-2011 at 02:06 PM.

Depends which Diesel engine you mean....No BMW Diesel can keep up with the massive TT V12 Diesel Audi puts in that Q7!
The tendency is to push it as far as you can!

In the USA is only one Diesel, it is called X5 35d with 265hp, same engine is called in germany 40d and has 306hp..... you can not compare a BMW Diesel with a V12 TDI, you can compare the V12 TDI with the X5M which kills the Q7 V12 TDI and the M is cheaper... the X5 is the better car, it is faster, ahs the better mpg, is cheaper and looks better IMO, BMW Diesel> Audi Diesel

I have owned both cars, just not the diesel versions. I have to say that i am partial to the Q7. It has a smoother ride and far quieter inside than the X5. I also like the interior much more in the Audi. If you have kids, the Audi has to be the choice because of the 3rd row seat and the added cargo space. I have also found the audi to be more dependable. Maybe I just got a bad one, but it seemed like I was at the BMW dealership weekly with an array of small issues.
I will say this for the BMW that I had: it hauled ass! I had the 4.6i and it was essentially an SUV version of a sports car. Fast as hell and the steering was tight.
Either way, you're gonna get a helluva car, the decision just depends on your needs.

I have not driven the X5 Diesel but I have driven the Q7 diesel. My mom's regular gas Q7 was in the dealership for almost 4 weeks trying to sort out a problem with it. They gave us a new A4, but we wanted something better after a week of waiting. They gave us the diesel Q7. Imo that car was, even though it was a base model (no HID's, smart key etc) greater than my moms loaded 3.6 gasser. I always thought her Q7 was slow and had no power, but the diesel Q had massive pick up from the huge amount of torque. I think the ride quality was a little harder, bute, and this is a huge but...we got 650+ miles on ONE TANK!! Even though diesel is more expensive, it is worth the extra cost. All in all I would buy that in a heartbeat if I was in the market for one.
As I said, I haven't driven the X5, I'm sure it's good too, but the Audi was great.

Driven both Audi and BMW diesels, and both are pretty quiet as far as diesels go. But the Audi is just a smoother ride all around. That's not to say BMW isn't smooth, but compared to the Audi, I prefer Audi. You forget it's diesel real quick!
However, I'm pretty sure you'd get better mileage out of the X5, because the Q7 is a bit heavier. She's not fat, just big boned! ha!"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them" - John Wayne
