Default General questions about R8, owners please chime in

I've never owned an Audi, so I'm interested to know how their build quality and customer service is. I'm looking into a 4.2 / 6 spd

How are the trips to the local dealership? I know most dealerships are totally different, but how is the one in your area?

How is the R tronic® sequential transmission? Does this transmission hold up, or burn through clutches?

Hows maintenance on the R8? based on a 3 pedal/6 spd
    -whats an oil change run?
    -tires?

Does the interior hold up, or do little plastic parts break easily?

What are some of the companies that offer after market performance support? exhaust, ecu, etc...

Came out of a Maserati, and got my 2010 4.2 in October. My first personal Audi, and I can honestly say I have never driven a better car. A Supercar that is easily a daily driver, and is just a pure joy to drive.

No experience with R tronic, but the 6spd manual gated shifter is a blast!
Went to my local Audi dealer, and even though I didn't buy from them, they were very friendly, and answered any and all questions I had. If memory serves correct, an oil change is about $200. If you purchase the audicare package, (no matter if car is new or used) for I think $750, it covers all your services through 30k. It pays for itself over 3 times I believe (as long as you own it for a while). Plus it is transferable as well.
Tires are no different than any other exotic/supercar.

Plastic?? As long as it is specd with enhanced leather package, there is hardly any plastic in sight. Audi is very well known for being a leader in fit and finish to boot!

2 of the more favorable/reputable exhausts are Stasis and Milltek.

Do yourself a favor and take a look at the R8talk forum. Very informative and specific to the R8.
    Hope this helps.....

I'm on mt 2nd Audi, an A8. I've driven over a million miles in my life, and have driven many cars. This is the best car I have ever owned. Audi service has also been great.

I second everything said here. And I believe the "Audicare" or "Audi Easy Care" package covers the service up to 45K miles. Definitely worth the small investment. It can be added at any time and if you do purchase a used car and the previous owner had it, as said, it is transferable.

I've had three Audi's now. Two R8's and an S4. I currently have the S4 and the R8 V10. I bought the V10 new because I knew it would be a car I'd keep for a long time. I've had just about every brand of supercar out there. Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, AMG, M Series, etc. The Audi is the best all around sports car I've ever driven. I've been using the S4 as a daily and it works very well.

I've had them all in for service and the Audi dealership here has been very nice and easy to deal with even though I did not buy the cars there. Service has been pricey on the R8's. I had the R8 4.2 with the R Tronic and had a full service done on it and it was pretty expensive. Not bad for the supercar world, just pretty expensive. Close to 1000 for transmission and oil and updates.

You will love the car. It just does everything well.

How did you like the R Tronic transmission? Is it similar to the F1 system in the Ferrari/Maserati? How often did you need to have a full service done? Did you ever have to replace the clutch?

Just on a side note. Thomas, why didn't you purchase the "Audi Care" or "Audi Easy Car" (whatever they call it) for your R8? You pay $750 for the package (which you can still buy now) and it covers all your regular servicing up to the 45K mile service. Should pay for itself after one visit.

Just an FYI as of Dec 5 Audi care went up in price but the coverage is still the same, covers you to the 45k service. The R8 is now 1,000.

I cant speak for the 4.2 FSI with the R8s tranny but I love it in the RS4, smooth, sounds great and had no issues thus far and I will break 40k miles this week.
