Lots of debate on the negative effects of running open headers - Bignmz04 chime in.

Engine & fuel engineering - Open Header = Burnt Exhaust Valves? Myth?

I am not really an expert on anything but from what i know:

I do run a car with open headers (my 63 vette) it all depends on the valves, valve steats, the material that the valves are made out of,tune etc

to my knowledge, just running just headers wont burn a valve...it will run like crap, as the tune will be off, and your exhaust will actually flow worse as your valves like a bit of back pressure. but you wont throw a valve.

people have been debating this since the old hotrod gasser days...those ran just headers into collecters...thats it. and their valves did not burn up...also...look at a lot of bikes which just run headers: the valves stay fine.

now running no headers at all....your valves will flower in 2 seconds...as one side of the valve will be a lot hotter than the other...so one side will expand, while the other contracts...
