no but that is not a race car, the R8 is a street car. a full on race car no not many, and street version race cars like a GT3 RS or Ferrari Scud you have one man and one paddle

you are right though it is what you like, i just don't know how someone could want that awful auto tranny they use in there over the beautiful gated manual you can get with it

i know when i get an R8 for my next car if i do it will be a manual that is for sure

Beautiful it is indeed. I wish more cars came with a gated shifter.

I had a M3 with SMG and a R8 V8 with R-Tronic. As long as you don't drive in automated, the tranny's excellent. Works just like a proper manual: simply shifts faster and no clutch pedal.

i thought the SMG in the E46 M3 was horrible, the one in the new E92 M3 is great for a paddle shifter. some people like the clutch and to do the work themselves like me even if it is slower. i find it sad that less and less sports cars are not coming with a manual option

People complain all the time the SMG II in the E46 is rough, but if you just lift off the throttle a tiny bit as you shift, you will get an extremely smooth shift every time. The new M3 uses a DSG transmission right?

dsg = s-tronic (audi's name for it) = dct (bmw's name for it)

Looks like the R8 will get the DSG at last ... no more R-Tronic.

"Not only will the light-weight R8 take inspiration from the R8 LMS cars with carbon fiber components, but it is also likely to use a more powerful version of the 5.2-liter V10. Currently that motor produced 535-hp in the R8, however, Lamborghini recently unveiled a 570-hp version in the new Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera at the Geneva Auto Show. Better yet, C&D says we should expect that Audi will finally replace the 6-speed R-tronic auto-box with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A six-speed manual is likely to continue as a standard item."
