Default Porsche Boxster to Audi S4 and some questions

    Hey fellas,

My warranty is about to end on my Porsche Boxster, and I would like to get rid of it before problems arise. I am looking to buy a more practical car, but still something fun. The Audi S4 is pretty high on my list for sporty sedans. The AWD is a big plus too as it snows in Pennsylvania.

I must say, these cars are becoming hard to find (i'm looking at B7's), but I have come across a few in my area. Is the S4 an easy platform to upgrade, i.e., easy to put more power down?

    Thanks!

There's really not that much aftermarket tunability for the b7's. JHMotorsports (http://www.jhmotorsports.com) makes most of the aftermarket stuff for the b6/b7 s4 platform. They're good, but not the holy grail people make them out to be. This is also coming from someone that has a lot of JHM parts installed. You can get a full exhaust and tune, but it's not going to give you that much more power, and it's gonna cost. JHM makes an aftermarket intake manifold that gives you some decent gains as well as a supercharger kit that can bump the car up to 500 hp, but once again, it's gonna cost.

If you're looking for an S4 to upgrade it would be a lot easier with a b5 platform, or even a b8. The b6/b7's are pretty limited in options unfortunately.

    Thanks for the info.

B5 is out of the question; too old, and therefore can't get a warranty.

I'm a big fan of the 4.2 V8 in the B7 which was keeping me away from the B8, that may no longer be the case. Damn turbocharged v6's these days....

    *supercharged v6's

With an exhaust, they sound amazing. The 4.2, while it sounds good, is a difficult to get power out of and in my experience, was incredibly unreliable. Totally go for the b8 s4, you'll thank me later

Full bolt on b6/b7's are making stock b8 s4 whp. For example, a stock s5 coupe made 260whp on a mustang dyno, and I made 303whp stock in my s4 minutes later.

I thought they were supercharged, was just too lazy to look.

I actually have an S4 (B7) sitting in my garage, right next to my Boxster. My local Audi dealer gave it to me for an overnight test drive today. I'm really liking it so far. The powerband is very smooth, stock exhaust is nice (that V8 makes me grin) and it pulls when asked to. I am leaning towards the B7 because I have a hook up at PES Tuning and they offered me a great deal on a tune/supercharger setup.

I'm not sure yet what i'm doing, i'll need to give the B8 a fighting chance though.

I would definitely try to fork over the extra cash for a B8. A way better choice all around. IMO

It's looking like the B8 is out of my price range (if I want a warranty that is).

So, looks like B7 is going to be the ticket; I can get an 08 with low enough miles for it to be CPO qualified, a huge selling point imo.

As of late, I have been hearing a lot of negative things said about PES Tuning's supercharger kit. Can anyone shed some light on reputable companies for supercharging (aside from MTM )?

I would look on here for all your tuning needs for Audi, if you are making a decision on that.AUDI SHOP - EUROCODE TUNING
a lot of people on the audi forums use this website because you can usually get a good deal on bulk orders.

Cant wait to see your new car!

My local Audi dealer is currently searching for S4's that meet my criteria, I hope they get back to me by mid next week.

I already have a Milltek cat back system lined up through a buddy of mine, he owes me one, and the system is priced accordingly .

Am I right in thinking cat back systems offer no gains in hp/tq?
